In this How To we describe how to create a new TPO Widget and make it available for your front-end integration.
When do you need to add a new TPO Widget?
You want to connect a product recommendation block in a page of your web-site
You want to connect another dynamic block in a page of your web-site (e.g.: blogs recommendations, banner personalization, …)
You want to add a new Narrative in a page of your web-site
You want to add additional dynamic components in an existing Narrative
Step 1: Select the right TPO
First, Log in Boxalino Intelligence Admin (link)
On the first page, select a TPO (look at the description of TPOs to find the best match, based on the following logic:
If it is about a product recommendation block (without a complete narrative layout) select a TPOof the bottom line:
WELCOME = on the home page and very general other start and landing pages
SEARCH = on search, or menu navigation pages and specific landing pages (typically, landing pages showing directly a product list)
UP-SELL = on the product detail page
CROSS-SELL = on the basket page or basket overlay
RE-BUY = on the account page
INDIVIDUALIZE = on the e-mail
If it is about another type of dynamic content (without a complete narrative layout), select a TPO of the second line
PROMOTE = banner (on any page)
READ = blog (on any page)
PROFILE = survey/questions (on any page)
If it is about a narrative layout select a TPO of the 3rd line:
PRESENT = on the home page and very general other start and landing pages
TELL = on search, or menu navigation pages and specific landing pages (typically, landing pages showing directly a product list)
PERSUADE = on the product detail page
Step 2: Create a new Widget
On the dialog box, you will see some statistics and the list of existing widgets in this tpo.
Click on the + Add Widget button on the bottom left:
Then enter a name for your widget (all in small letter, without any space or special character except _ which is allowed) and press SAVE.
The Widget Creation Wizard appear, you can follow it if you want, but in this How To, we will skip it and then press the gray button on the bottom left : “No need, I know what I am doing”.
Then you get to the Widget Editor, we will not cover in this How To how to configure a strategy but only how to add an new empty widget, so for now, we will simply Save it and prepare it for testing, by clicking on the Save & Test button on the bottom right.
Then press “OK, Let’s go”:
Then wait until you see a new Dialog Box:
Step 3: Publish Your Configuration
If you only want to test the new Widget in a test front-end which is connected in Test Mode (if you are not sure if it is connected in test mode, please ask your IT Manager responsible for the integration of Boxalino), then you are done, no need to do anything else.
Changes will take about 5 minutes after the display of the confirmation dialog box above until you can see them active in your front-end.
But if you are using the published production configuration of a demo account (or need to publish your configuration after testing that everything works well so that you can go live), then you will need to publish your configuration.
Open the Deployment Menu (little plane) and click on Publishing.
You will see then the list of unpublished changes appear.
If you see other unpublished changes, please check with your colleagues (or your Boxalino contacts) if they are all ready to be published, because publishing will deploy all unpublished changes, not necessarily only yours.
If you see that only your new widget appears, then it means this is the only unpublished change and you can go ahead.
Press then on the Publish All green button on the bottom right.
You will then see the confirmation dialog which you need to confirm by clicking on “YES, PUBLISH ALL WIDGETS IN PRODUCTION!”.
Then you need to wait until you see the confirmation dialog box.
Changes will take about 5 minutes after the display of the confirmation dialog box above until you can see them active in your front-end.
