How to over-rule results with Item Rules

Pre-requisites

If you want to change the results of a widget manually, you can do it directly with Item Rules in the Testing View.

First reproduce your request with the required parameters (refer to the document https://boxalino-internal.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/BDKB/pages/884899856/How+to+review+new+test+variants+and+fine-tune+their+configuration ) in the testing view.

Important! Make sure that you set the parameters you want for the scope of your rule. For example, for a search, the search query should be set. For a request based on the day, the “current_date=XXXX-XX-XX” should be set in the Parameters Tab > Context parameters, etc. Without the right context, your rule will apply all the time for the selected widget.

Re-rank results with Drag & Drop

You can simply click on any of the results and move it (drag & drop) to the desired position.

After you do this, the result will appear with a green border.

Before refreshing the view, make sure to click on the upload button (as your rule change will not be applied without an update of your testing configuration.

Remove a result from the list

Select the Details tab of result that you would like to remove and click on the button “+ Rule” to add a rule.

Then, on the right part of the Dialog Box called Effect, change the effect type to “exclude” and click save.

Add a result in the list

Select the Details tab of any result (doesn’t matter which one) and click on the button “+ Rule” to add a rule.

Then, on the right part of the Dialog Box called Effect, change the value of the “Values” field with the identifier of the product you want to add (make sure you type the value matching the Field selected and appearing above). Then change the Effect type to rank, define the position the item should have in the list and make sure to set the check-box “Force include”. Then press save.

Remove an Item Rule

Click on the Details tab of the results influenced by an Item Rule (with a green border) that you want to remove.

There click on the orange button to delete the Rule.

To see the effect of your rule removal, click on the Upload Button on the top of the results.

If you want to remove a rule which doesn’t appear as a result in the list (for example, if your rule was to remove an item), then go to the menu Merchandising > Rules and delete the Item Rule in the list

To see the effect of your rule removal, click on the Test button.

Publish your changes

After you have finished configuring and testing your Item Rules, go to Deployment > Publish and publish your changes.
