Heuristics

When you navigate to the Segments-menu under Merchandising->Segments, you will be faced with a view similar to the menu of the Widget & Page Optimizer.

Hover over the “Merchandising” menu (wand icon) on the sidebar and click on “Heuristics”

There you create a new heuristic by clicking on the “+ Add” button. Give it a name and click on save.

Now click on the edit button to edit your new heuristic.

Now you are in the dialog. Here you see the name of your heuristic. Add in the widget filed your widget (in this case, it’s abo).

Afterwards choose the kind of your Heuristic.

If your heuristic is Simple, then a button will appear below with the label + Effect, which allows you to add effects. After you added one, an accordion box appears.

Click on it and you’ll see these fields:

Select which field should be affected.

Values

Select what values should be affected.

Opens the inline response dialog to search for and add values.

Effect type

Select what kind of effect the rule will have:

  • Add/exclude an item from the result list.

  • Boost an item to the top of the result list.

  • Put an item at a set rank in the result list.

Boost weight

Amount that this item will be boosted.

Rank in position

Set the rank at which this rule should be positioned at.

Force include

If set, this forces the item to be included in the context.

 

After you’ve set the effects, you move to the Context tab. In the you can add a context with the button. A accordion box appears, you can open it by clicking on it.

In there you choose Script Condition from the dropdown and add it with the button on the left side.

Here you choose your Template Resource from the dropdown and save the dialog.

If your heuristic is Distribution, then a button will appear below with the label + Values, which allows you to add effects. After you added one, an accordion box appears.

Inherits the field value from the dropdown above.

Select what values should be affected.

 

Opens the inline response dialog to search for and add values.

Negative

If you check it negative, it won’t have an affect anymore.

Min. Distribution Percent

Here you can define the minimum value in percent of the distribution.

Max. Distribution Percent

Here you can define the maximum value in percent of the distribution.

Min. Distribution Amount

Here you can define the minimum amount of the distribution.

Max. Distribution Amount

Here you can define the maximum amount of the distribution.

The final step is to click on the Test button to apply the changes for testing.
